General

What is Piano: Soloist?

A web app that turns sheet music into a piano performance you can watch: the score, falling notes and keyboard move in sync, in 2D/2.5D/3D, with video recording. It runs right in your browser.

Is it free?

Partly free. The core features are free to use: playing scores, the 400+ piece library, MIDI import, practice tools and video recording. A few extras, such as the high-quality piano and medley mode, come with Pro.

Are there ads?

Only in two places: on the screen while a score is being converted, and in the optional "watch an ad for one more conversion" after you've used your free conversions. There are no ads anywhere else — not while you play, practice or record, and not in the song list. Pro and Pro-Lite don't see these ads either.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up. Your saved scores and settings stay in your browser.

How is it different from Synthesia?

It runs in the browser, shows the real sheet music next to the falling notes, opens MusicXML/PDF scores as well as MIDI, and records videos. Synthesia is an installed app with more keyboard-learning features.

Which browsers are supported?

Recent Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. Recording and MIDI keyboards work best in Chrome or Edge on a computer.

Is there a mobile app?

There is no store app, but the site works on phones and tablets, and you can add it to your home screen. On phones it shows one hand at a time in landscape.

Playing and practice

Can I change the speed?

Yes, from 0.5× to 1.5×.

Can I practice one hand?

Yes. You can show only the right or left hand, and the other hand still plays.

Can I jump to a bar or loop a section?

Yes, use the Bars menu to jump or repeat a range of bars.

Can I connect a MIDI keyboard?

Yes, in Chrome or Edge on PC and Android (Safari has no Web MIDI). Wait mode pauses until you play the right keys — one piece a day on Basic, unlimited with Pro.

Does it show fingering?

If the score contains fingering numbers, they appear above the falling notes. You can turn them off.

What views and themes are there?

2D, 2.5D and 3D, with themes such as Space, Classic, Christmas and Neon (some are Pro), plus your own background image.

Files and library

Which file types can I open?

MusicXML (.musicxml, .xml), compressed MusicXML (.mxl), MIDI (.mid, .midi), printed PDF scores and piano recordings.

Where do the pieces come from?

Public-domain and openly licensed scores (for example CC0 scores from PDMX and other open sources). Each piece page lists its source and license.

How well does PDF conversion work?

It uses music recognition and works best on clean printed scores. Photos, blurry scans and handwriting are hard, and lead sheets with chord symbols are not a good fit. You can download the result and fix it in MuseScore.

Are my files uploaded?

MusicXML and MIDI are processed on your device. PDF and recording conversions are sent to a conversion server and deleted as soon as the conversion ends.

How many scores can I save?

5 on Basic, unlimited with Pro. They are saved in your browser.

Recording and video

How do I make a video?

Use Record. Live recording captures the screen as it plays; Render mode draws one frame at a time so even a slow PC makes a smooth video.

Can I make vertical videos for Shorts and Reels?

Yes. In Render, choose Vertical 9:16.

What quality can I export?

Basic: 720p with a small watermark. Pro adds 1080p and higher, 60fps and no watermark.

Can I record on iPhone or iPad?

The site's recording works on computers. On iPhone and iPad, use the built-in screen recording.

Pro and payment

What does Pro include?

High-quality piano sound, medley mode, 1080p/60fps recording without a watermark, 3D recording, unlimited Wait mode and saved scores, Pro themes and more conversions.

Is it a subscription?

No. Pro is a one-time purchase that keeps working, including Pro features added later.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, a 3-day trial without a card. It ends by itself and is never charged.

How do I pay?

By card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Payments are handled by our reseller, Lemon Squeezy.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, ask within 14 days of payment for a full refund.

How many devices can I use?

One license key works on up to 3 devices.

Will sales stop?

Sales will stop from December 28, but we plan to reopen them later. If you've already bought Pro-Lite or Pro, you can keep using its features.

What is Pro-Lite?

A $3.99 one-time purchase for people who mainly need conversions: it removes ads and allows 3 PDF conversions a day (up to 20 pages each) and 5 recording conversions a day, with unlimited saved scores. It does not include Pro features such as the high-quality piano.

How many devices can I use Pro-Lite on?

One Pro-Lite key works on up to 2 devices.

Troubleshooting

There is no sound.

Check that your device is not muted (on iPhone, the silent switch), then press play again. Browsers only start audio after you tap or click.

Playback stutters.

Turn on low-graphics mode (2D) or close other tabs. 3D needs more graphics power.

My file will not open.

Make sure it is MusicXML, MXL, MIDI or PDF. If a MusicXML file fails, re-export it from MuseScore.
